Introducing the Green Scholars Initiative
Late this summer I agreed to serve as the Director for the Green Scholars Initiative. This program is built around the Green Collection, perhaps the world’s largest private collection of original documents related to the Judeo-Christian story. The Green Scholars Initiative is bringing together groups of scholars at dozens of universities to work on these items. While scholars have been collaborating for years, this initiative takes the bold and innovative step of allowing undergraduate students to work with their professors on these original documents—giving them access to the primary sources. In fact, it’s a requirement for scholars’ participation. It’s “Mentoring Redefined,” and will be a major push in the area of undergraduate research. We anticipate ten groups of scholars working on ten different areas of the collection, each headed by a Senior Scholar—a leading voice in that particular field. Watch for more developments in this area in the months and years ahead. Several initiatives will develop around The Green Collection, though final plans and official announcements are yet to be made.
