Past and Upcoming Speaking Engagements

As I continue to speak at several of your universities, I’m constantly amazed at the creative approaches of dealing with challenges unique to your campuses and communities. In Pueblo Colorado, a very intentional curricular design takes into consideration the large number of single parents. At UTEP, I met the most amazing support group for students dealing with life-death pressures. That is, around 300 of their students walk the bridge daily to and from their homes in Juarez, Mexico—where much of the world is aware of the recent 5,000 assassinations due to the drug wars. My friends at Trine University (formerly, Tri-State University, Angola, IN) are implementing a series of sessions that help engineering students. The Ivy Tech—Indiana Community Colleges continue to look for positive matriculation agreements for transfer students. At St. Francis University (Ft. Wayne, IN) their summer program for first-generation students is amazing. My most recent engagement was on the Ball State University Campus assisting the 21st Scholars program, a flagship initiative nationally. Their connection to families early in the process is making a difference in students’ lives and increasing their matriculation rates (to college). I’ll soon go to a beautiful Brown County retreat area to speak to the faculty and staff of the University of Indianapolis. It’ll be my third time speaking for this campus, and they continue to show and increased priority on student success and retention issues. Late the fall I’ll see some of you at the conference for FYE (National Resource Center). I’ll be joining the other authors of Helping Sophomores Succeed (Jossey-Bass) for a workshop on sophomores.
